Our History

A Phoenix Rises

Pivot Cycles burst onto the scene with the Mach 4 and Mach 5, setting a new standard for mountain bike performance. These bikes introduced unparalleled efficiency and pedaling prowess, showcasing frame innovation and quality that redefined the sport.

Hot on the heels of the Mach 4 and 5’s initial success was the debut of the renowned Firebird. With 167mm of rear wheel travel, it was a standout in the All-Mountain category. The patented floating front derailleur design addressed major shifting and chain management challenges, solidifying the Firebird’s position as an ahead-of-its-time trailblazer.

The Mach 429 launched, bringing the exceptional performance of the 26” Mach 4 to the burgeoning 29er market. This bike excelled in XC and endurance racing, capable of tackling technical terrain far beyond the limits of traditional XC bikes.

The introduction of the Phoenix, our first downhill bike, and with it, the establishment of Pivot Factory Racing. With Kyle Strait, Mitch Delfs and Will Rischbieth leading the charge, the team took on the World Cup circuit.

The Mach 5.7 marked our foray into carbon bikes, ushering in an era of lighter, stiffer and stronger models.

The Mach 6 arrived, one of the first 27.5” (650B) bikes, revolutionizing the All-Mountain trail bike category. That same year, the world was introduced the Vault, our entry into the gravel bike market.

The first carbon Mach 4 with 27.5” wheels was released. Chloe Woodruff competed with it in the 2016 Rio Olympics, and later rode the Mach 4 SL to a World Cup short track win, showcasing its world-class performance.

We unveiled the Mach 429 Trail (later named the Trail 429), marking our entry into the 29er trail bike segment. With 116mm of rear travel and a 120mm fork, it set a new trend for 29” wheels across our lineup.

The first-generation Switchblade launched, redefining what longer travel 29ers could be. With short chainstays, 135mm/160mm of travel, advanced geometry and incredible frame stiffness, the Switchblade set a new benchmark in mountain biking.

We celebrated our 10-year anniversary with the release of the Mach 5.5, a 27.5” trail bike that balanced capability and efficiency for non-racers. We also ventured into eMTBs with the Shuttle, featuring Shimano’s e8000 drive system and delivering unmatched ride performance and integration.

The Pivot Factory Racing team is elevated to new heights with the release of the Phoenix 29.

The new Switchblade debuted with radical design changes, including vertical shock placement and revised geometry. This model set the tone for future Pivot innovations. We also launched a new version of the Vault, with patented Iso-Flex technology, enhancing comfort and performance in gravel racing.

We introduced the new Firebird, a game-changer in the Enduro World Series (EWS) that helped the Pivot Factory Racing team clinch the #1 EWS team ranking. This year also saw the launch of a new Trail 429, enhancing this fan favorite’s capabilities while preserving its legendary sharpness.

The Shuttle SL entered the lightweight e-bike segment, weighing about 36lbs and offering a perfect balance of power and agility. Soon after the Shuttle SL came the introduction of the Shuttle LT, featuring big travel, full power and a big battery, delivering Firebird-like performance.

The completely updated Mach 4SL was introduced, offering multiple travel options and an ultralight chassis. It excelled where other XC suspension bikes fell short, delivering superior climbing and descending performance. After the success of the Mach 4SL came the launch of the Shuttle AM, the electrified version of the new Switchblade, highlighting our expertise in eMTB innovation.
