Matt grew up in a small town in New Zealand where he started racing BMX with his sister at eight-years-old. He claimed a few national titles along the way but found his true passion when he stumbled onto the mountain bike trails. At the age of 16, he hung up his BMX gear and never looked back! Matt began racing World Cups as a junior, where he qualified in the elite top 80 multiple times. After high school, Matt put competitive cycling on hold while he completed an Electrical Apprenticeship. Post-apprenticeship he and a few friends (including Ed Masters) bought a van in Europe to tackle the World Cups as privateers. Matt raced aboard a Pivot Phoenix and stood on the podium a handful of times. It wasn’t long before the boys were hooked on racing. Matt signed with Pivot Factory Racing in 2019 and things are only getting better!
