Pivot Cycles and DNA Cycling to Sponsor Women’s Professional Cyclocross Team

09.14.2017 | News

Tempe, AZ – Building on an already strong women’s sponsorship program, Pivot Cycles is partnering with DNA Cycling to co-sponsor a women’s professional cyclocross team.

With world-ranked women racers in Downhill and Cross Country already riding Pivot bikes, Pivot Cycles is now turning their attention to winter, with the formation of a new professional women’s cyclocross squad. In partnership with high quality bike clothing manufacturer DNA Cycling, the new Pivot Cycles pb DNA Cycling Team consists of Courtenay McFadden and Sofia Gomez-Villafañe, both already well known in the sport and ready to tackle the 2017/18 season.

McFadden is one of the top women in US Cyclocross racing, with five years of UCI competition under her belt and three break out UCI wins last season. When asked about the new squad, she said, “I’m extremely excited to tackle the new season with Sofia as a part of the program! This will be my first year with a teammate in the races and that changes the dynamics of racing in a really positive way. I’m also looking forward to cheering for Sofia and contributing to the success of her first full UCI calendar, through sharing what I’ve learned over the past few years.”

For her own part, Gomez-Villafañe is just getting started on what looks to be a very bright future in the sport. “Last year was my first year as an Elite UCI CX racer, I had some great races and got to visit the podium a few times. For the upcoming season, I’m looking forward to building on that success and learning more about the tactical aspects of the sport through Courtenay’s experience.”

The Pivot Cycles pb DNA Cycling Team will race the Pivot Vault, a competition-ready cyclocross machine that eagerly doubles as an all-season gravel and racing bike. DNA Cycling is a supplier of top-level custom cycling gear – from thermal skinsuits to summer gear –they will furnish the team with everything the racers need to stay warm and look as fast as they are, this season.

The 2017/2018 race season, and the first round of racing for Pivot Cycles pb DNA Cycling, kicks off this weekend at UCI World Cup of Cyclocross #1 in Iowa City, IA during the JingleCross Festival. About Courtenay McFadden:

Residing in the Pacific Northwest, muddy, technical races are some of Courtenay’s favorite races.  The 2017/2018 marks Courtenay’s 5th year on the UCI circuit, with the 2016/2017 season being her breakout season with 3 UCI wins, multiple podiums, a 5th place at Nationals, and culminating with a 15th at her first World Championships.  Courtenay’s goals are to continue to push her limits to be the best athlete she can, on and off the bike. She looks to motivate and inspire others, particularly through her comeback from hip surgery, to let others know a set back doesn’t define you, and gives you reason to find a bigger comeback.

About Sofia Gomez Villafane

The 2017/2018 Cyclocross season will be Sofia’s second season of UCI Cyclocross racing.  After graduating from Fort Lewis College (Durango, CO) in 2016, she moved to Park City, UT and took the 2016/2017 UCI scene by storm with a break out race at the Pan American Continental Championships where she finished 6th.  Sofia went on to take her first UCI win a couple weeks later in Indianapolis.  Sofia’s ultimate goal is on the mountain bike, where she hopes to represent Argentina at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics for Cross Country.
