Introducing the LES Fat

Ear-to-ear grins come standard with the new Pivot LES Fat – the world’s most versatile big-tire machine. The full carbon frame of the Pivot LES Fat features leading-edge materials and our proprietary hollow-core, internal-molding process. This coveted technology enables us to create an ultra-lightweight frame featuring the largest downtube in the category and a 132mm Press Fit BB for best-in-class power transfer.

Our patented Swinger II dropout system works with all plus / fat bike wheelsizes. Choose the shortest possible chainstay length for a flickable, playful ride or choose a longer wheelbase and more tire clearance for stability with heavy loads and in messy conditions. The LES Fat maintains ideal geometry via the indexed adjustment arc of the dropouts – the bigger the wheel and the more clearance, the lower the bottom bracket. Included are two headset cup options (Zero Stack and 18mm), for perfect front end geometry at any wheelsize.

The LES Fat is RockShox Bluto compatible and includes a Pivot designed carbon fork with 150mm dropout spacing – one wheelset will work with both options. 2x and 1x gearing compatibility makes the LES Fat an ideal choice in any terrain, and the LES Fat rear spacing is 197mm with an ergo-friendly low Q-factor design when built with the Pivot/E-Thirteen co-designed fat bike crankset. The Pivot Cable Port System makes internal routing simple to install and maintain via large, easy to access ports and interchangeable covers. Easily switch between a variety of cable routing options for the cleanest installation. Additional details include integrated rear rack mounts, internal dropper post routing and 3 water bottle mounts – making the LES Fat the perfect choice for any big tire adventure.

Swinger II Dropout System

The LES Fat features our newly patented Swinger II dropout system, enabling you to run almost any available plus or fat bike wheelsize, easily switch between singlespeed and geared drivetrains and choose your chainstay length based on conditions and desired handling characteristics. With the option to run every tire size from 26 X 3.8, 26 X 4.8, 27.5+, 29+ and anything in between, your bike is really a quiver of options that take you into any season and any condition.

Riders also have the option to set chainstay length within the Swinger II system. The shortest possible setting gives you a flickable, playful ride previously unknown in the big tire category – we feature the shortest chainstays for every wheelsize category. Adjusting for maximum wheelbase and tire clearance (the LES Fat accommodates rubber up to 5” in width) gives you an incredibly stable ride for heavy loads and messy conditions.

Great Geometry at Any Wheelsize

No matter what wheel/tire combination you choose, great handing characteristics are an imperative. The Swinger II dropout system allows the LES Fat to maintain ideal Geometry via an indexed adjustment arc designed into the dropouts – the bigger the wheel and the more clearance you choose, the lower the bottom bracket.

In conjunction with the adjustable rear dropouts, we’ve also accounted for how changing wheelsizes affects the front of the bike. Included with every LES Fat frameset and complete bike are two lower headset cup options – when using a 29+ wheelset or the Rock Shox Bluto suspension fork, choose the Zero Stack option. For 26” wheel options, choose the 18mm cup.

Custom Designed Fork and Bluto Compatibility

The LES Fat frameset includes a Pivot designed carbon, tapered steerer rigid fork that easily accommodates any wheelsize with clearance to spare. This full carbon fork features 150mm dropout spacing – the same spacing as a RockShox Bluto suspension fork. Riders who choose to switch between the supplied rigid fork and a Bluto fork will only need one 150mm compatible wheelset to work with either option.

Ideal Gearing and Ergonomics

Ergonomics and gearing are the key to making a big-tire bike into your daily driver. We at Pivot expect to see the LES Fat in a wide variety of terrain and riding surfaces and in everything from racing events to multi week tours. For the best performance in both high and low cadence conditions, we’ve made sure that the LES Fat is both kind to your knees and that it accommodates a wide variety of 1x, 2x and singlespeed gearing set-ups.

Massive chainstay clearance (up to 5” tires) is made even more useful with a q-factor and chainline much closer to that of bikes designed to cleat only 4” or smaller tires. You will find 197mm rear spacing on the LES Fat paired with a 15mm narrower knee-saving q-factor when built with the Pivot/E-Thirteen co-designed fat bike crankset that ships on every LES Fat complete bike.

2x and 1x gearing compatibility makes the LES Fat an ideal choice in any terrain. The LES Fat complete bike comes with a 1x set up, but the crank spider is 2x compatible. The frame features a low profile e-type mount included with both the frameset and complete bike that works with Shimano’s sideswing front derailleur.
For those that prefer the simplest solution, the Swinger II dropout system also singlespeed compatible – no need to switch dropout hardware.

Pivot Carbon Frame Design

The full carbon frame of the Pivot LES Fat features leading-edge materials and our proprietary hollow-core, internal-molding process. This coveted production technology enables us to create a best-in-class frame with the lighter, stiffer, stronger qualities needed to make a do-anything fat bike. In order to support a wide range of wheelsizes, while tracking and accelerating beyond expectations, the LES Fat features the largest downtube in the category, as well as optimized layup structure, top tube and seatstay/chainstay shaping. This proprietary design gives the LES Fat best in class power transfer and the vertical compliance that makes epic rides comfortable and fun.

Pivot Cable Port System

Additional foul weather advantages are found in the Pivot Cable Port System. Internal routing for any component is easy to install and maintain via large, easy to access ports and interchangeable covers. Riders have the ability to switch between a variety of cable routing options, allowing for the cleanest possible installation. Rest easy knowing that no matter what components or gearing you choose, now or in the future, we have you covered.

Versatile and Functional Details

Additional essential details include beautifully integrated rear rack mounts, internal dropper post routing for extreme terrain and 3 water bottle mounts, making the LES Fat the most capable adventure bike you can get.

“It is the best overall bike I have ever ridden” – Owner review of the LES Fat

03.02.2016 | Online Media

When a Pivot rider loves his bike this much, it makes our year! "The ride on my Pivot is just plain ridiculous. Any of my friends who have taken it out agree. It is the best overall bike I have ever ridden. It is fast, responsive, and very smooth. Out on the single track, it easily goes wherever I point it. Even though my off-road skills aren’t the best, my Pivot makes me want to hit the trails whenever...

“The LES Fat can be summed up with three letters — F. U. N.”

03.02.2016 | Online Media

"Indeed, if there were ever a fat bike that appeals to the person having a hard time justifying the expense, the impressively versatile Pivot LES Fat might be that bike... Depending on your needs, the extra money spent on a LES Fat and its versatility might be a better investment than spending half the money on a heavier, slower dedicated fat bike that will likely collect dust half the year." Frequently Asked Questions

What is the weight of the LES Fat?

The medium LES Fat frame, including the Swinger II dropout system, weighs 3.5lbs / 1587 grams. The carbon fork weighs 1.7lbs / 793 grams. The complete LES Fat with the Pivot build weighs 27.7lbs / 12.56 kg. The complete bike with the DT wheel option weighs 26.6lbs / 12.06 kg.

How much weight can I save with the DT wheel upgrade?

Sun/Salsa stock wheel:
Front = 1,265 grams
Rear = 1,447.4 grams
Total = 2,712.4 grams / 5.97lbs

DT Wheel:
Front = 1,063.3 grams
Rear = 1,191 grams
Total = 2,254.3 grams / 4.96lbs

The difference between total wheelset weights is 458.1 grams, or around 1.0099 pounds. You save over a pound of weight when you upgrade to the DT wheels.

Which size bike should I purchase?

To ensure the best sizing, we recommend that you visit your local Pivot dealer to get a professional fit and refer to our geometry chart to check your measurements. However, we can provide a rough fitting guideline:

Small: 5'5" – 5’9”
Medium: 5'9” – 5’11”
Large: 5’11” – 6’3”

What cranks are compatible with the LES Fat?

The Pivot/E-Thirteen co-designed fat bike crankset available with Pivot complete models (recommended) offers the lowest Q factor. However, any fat bike cranks designed to work with 197mm rear spacing will work fine. There are standard 197mm rear spacing compatible fat bike crank options available from e-thirteen, Raceface, and others.

What bottom bracket is used on the LES Fat

The LES Fat features a 132mm wide press fit bottom bracket. This is based off a Shimano PF92 design. Most crank manufacturers that offer compatible cranks also offer a PFBB option. If not, Enduro, E-thirteen and Raceface all offer press fit BB cups compatible with 30mm spindles and Shimano, Enduro, FSA, Chris King, Raceface (plus many others) offer BB cup options compatible with 24mm spindles.

With the press fit system, there are no external washers or threads in the shell. The bearings are housed cups (similar to headset cups). This design allows for easy crank installation, with no frame facing or special washers behind the BB cups required. Chain line is perfectly optimized and the design allows for the bearings to support the cranks at their absolute widest point which reduces the loads on the bearings for longer life and allows the BB area of the frame to be as stiff and wide as possible.

What is the Q factor of the LES Fat?

The LES Fat has a Q-Factor of 210mm when paired with the Pivot/E-Thirteen co-designed fat bike crank that is included in all LES Fat Complete builds. This is similar to the Q factor on bikes designed for the narrower 170mm rear hub spacing.

210mm is very narrow for this category, a full 15mm narrower than other cranks designed for 197mm rear ends and right in line with the standard for 4” travel fat bikes which more and more riders are adapting as their XC race bikes.

What hubs will work with the LES Fat?

The LES Fat features 197x12 thru-axle rear spacing and the fork features 15x150mm spacing. There are several hub and hubset options available that fit this standard and more available in the near future.

What size seatpost does the LES Fat use?

The LES Fat frame uses a 30.9mm seatpost.

What size seat clamp does the LES Fat use?

The LES Fat frame uses a 34.9mm or 35mm (as some manufacturers call it) seatpost clamp.

Can I use a dropper post with this frame?

Yes, the LES Fat is internal dropper post compatible.

What gearing can I use on the LES Fat?

The LES Fat is 1x, 2x and singlespeed gearing compatible. The Swinger II dropout adapts to both geared and singlespeed setups.

What front derailleur does the LES Fat use?

For 2x gearing, the LES Fat includes a low profile e-type mount with both the frameset and complete bike and works with Shimano’s incredible side-swing front derailleur.

What headset do I need for the LES Fat?

The LES Fat uses a ZS (zero stack) 44mm top and both (zero stack) 56mm bottom, and an 18mm bottom cup. A Chris King Inset 2 is also compatible.

What wheel sizes fit in this frame?

You can fit pretty much any size plus or fat bike wheel in the LES Fat frame via the innovative Swinger II dropout system. 26 X 3.8, 26 X 4.8, 27.5+ and 29+ are all good options.

Our focus was on 26” Fat Bike rims 60-90mm wide with tires ranging from 3.8”-5”, 27.5” plus tires with 38-55mm rims ranging from 2.8”-3.25” and 29”+ wheels where the rim is typically also 38-55mm with 3” tires.

Riders can also build standard 29er trail rims onto 197mm rear and 150 mm front hubs and run more conventional sized tires on the bike (in the realm of 2.0-2.4”), for ultimate daily-driver versatility.

How wide of a tire can I run on the LES Fat?

The LES Fat is compatible with tires up to 5” in width with plenty of clearance. Rim width and tire manufacture sizing call outs and tire inconsistency can result in huge difference among both tire brands and individual tires. We suggest you check the fit with your chosen rim and tire combination to make sure it has proper clearance before riding.

How large of a rotor will fit on the LES Fat?

The LES will clear either a 160mm or 180mm rotor on the rear and a 180mm rotor on the front.

What type of rear brake adapter do I need?

No brake adapter is needed for a 160mm rotor on the rear. However, many manufacturers make adapters for larger rotor sizes, in which case you would need a direct mount/ post to post adapter to go to a larger size. The LES Fat fork features a 180mm post mount so no adaptor is required.

What travel fork can I use on my LES Fat?

The LES Fat was designed to work with the RockShox Bluto which ranges in travel from 80 to 120mm. We recommend 90mm-100mm travel. The maximum travel length that can be used on the LES Fat is 120mm travel.

How do I allow for multiple headset stack heights when cutting the carbon fork steerer?

When installing your Pivot carbon fat bike fork, it is important to note that the steer tube should be cut long enough to allow for the use of the 18mm lower headset cup. If you are setting your bike up with the zero stack cup, placing an additional 15mm spacer on the steerer when measuring will ensure that it is long enough to take advantage of the LES Fat's versatility.

Is the LES Fat a good choice for bikepacking?

Yes! The LES Fat features integrated rear rack mounts. There are several rear rack options available for fat bikes. Riders should consult the rack manufacturer for clearance and fit details.

How many waterbottle mounts are there on the LES Fat?

The LES Fat features 3 water bottle mounts.

What are the torque specs?

A detailed PDF of the torque specs can be found under the "Tech Specs" tab.

How “enduro” is the LES Fat?

As the World's Most Versatile Fat Bike, the LES Fat is as "enduro" as you want it to be. We at Pivot take pride in being at the forefront of "enduro" and suggest these steps to achieve extra "enduro-ness" while on your next big tire adventure:

It is possible to "Enduro" on any tire size as long as you can confidently state that your chainstay length is shorter than all other chainstays of similar tire-size bikes within the boundaries of your local riding area. This makes the LES Fat the perfect choice, as it feature the shortest possible chainstays for every wheel size category. Adjust the Swinger II dropout for your selected tire size and begin boasting immediately for maximum "Enduro" points. Be sure to list chainstay length in your Strava ride descriptions.

If you’re vegan, do Crossfit, and ride a LES Fat, which should you talk about the most?

Your best option is to emphasize the positive effect that being a vegan Crossfitter has had on your LES Fat "enduro" Strava sessions. Do this with every rider you encounter at the trailhead for maximum "Enduro" points, being sure to use the term "KOM" and and talk about how many "Cups" you have.
